Shen Ji, who graduated from a British university and worked in Hangzhou for eight years after returning to China, made a dramatic career change earlier this year. She quit her job and returned to her hometown of Mogan Mountain, a scenic spot in Deqing County, Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province, and started a business making refrigerator magnets with her husband, Xi Yang.
Mr. Shen and Mr. Xi love art and collecting, so they started trying to use different materials to draw the scenery of Mount Mogan on refrigerator magnets so that tourists could take this piece of green water and green mountains home.
The couple has now designed and produced more than a dozen fridge magnets, which are sold in shops, cafes, B&Bs and other places in Moganshan. “Collecting fridge magnets has always been our hobby. It is very gratifying to turn our hobby into a career and contribute to the development of our hometown.”
