The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has issued a warning to equipment manufacturer Van Deer-Red Bull Sports after requiring its athletes to use skis with their logo at the Alpine Ski World Cup in Schladming.
The International Federation stated that Van Dier-Red Bull Sport had previously reported that their logo did not comply with FIS rules.
But the company asked the governing body to use their logo in Schladming, but was again refused.
According to Article 2.1 of the FIS Rules, any manufacturer’s or sponsor’s logo on clothing and equipment must comply with the FIS Rules Competition Equipment Rules and Commercial Marking Rules.
Article 1.3 of the FIS states: “Companies not normally involved in the manufacture of equipment, but which manufacture certain equipment primarily for promotional purposes, are not entitled to manufacturer identification privileges.”
However, the governing body confirmed that no irregularities had occurred in Schladming, adding that no ski manufacturer would receive “special treatment”.
“Manufacturer identification rules have been in place for many years,” the FIS said in a statement.
“They apply to competitors, officials, service providers and everyone in the competition area.
“FIS is particularly interested in ensuring that athletes who have been training for many years are not involved in such disputes.
“FIS requires adherence to clearly articulated rules and respect for all other athletes, teams and manufacturers.”
Switzerland’s Loïc Meillard won gold in the giant slalom at the Alpine Skiing World Cup in Schladming.

When British figure skaters Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean won the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics with a score of 6.0 out of 12 for Maurice Ravel’s Bolero, a key member of their ice dancing gold medal team was singer and actor Michael Crawford. Crawford, who played Frank Spencer on the British sitcom Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em and starred in the musical The Phantom of the Opera, became the couple’s mentor in 1981 and continues to help them build their Olympic programs. Crawford said he “taught them how to act”. He was on the sidelines in Sarajevo along with their coach Betty Callaway when they created one of the most iconic moments in Olympic history.
